THE FIXER: : Afghanistan Behind the Scenes
Part of the SANTA BARBARA DOCS Shorts Program

Who did it:
Directed by Aaron Rockett

The Basics:
This documentary is all about the middle-man of journalism. This short talks about a man working for the BBC on a documentary about Pakistan and women driving, and his Fixer. A Fixer is a journalist guy on the inside, he is the person who makes all the connections for a reporter when he is in a foreign place. This documentery follows the dangers of being a Fixer in a place like Pakistan.

What's Good:
This film describes the dangers of journalism. It really draws you in with all the action going on. You can feel the fear that the Fixer feels when they are in a Taliban neighborhood. This movie really captures the dark side of journalism.

What's Not:
I think that Aaron Rockett (the director and film-maker) could have done better by shortening this movie a little bit. There were some parts where the plot kind of wandered off.

The Verdict:
This is a great documentery about the dark side of journalism. I would recomend this movie to adults, and to children/teens who are into journalism and reporting. I would give it a 3 on the 1-5 scale.
