THE BAND'S VISIT
Who’s in it:
Sasson Gabai, Ronit Elkabetz

What’s up:
The Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra (an Egyptian police corps) gets chosen to go to Israel to perform at an Arab Culture Center. Once at the Israeli airport, they catch a bus to the middle of nowhere and realize they are stranded in the wrong town. As hunger overpowers the group of musicians, they find shelter in this ratty town, where they end up staying the night in a restaurant owned by a lonely woman. This movie is about the night that Tewfiq (the conductor) and Dina (the owner of the restaurant) have as they go on a “date.”

The Good News:
It’s very funny. Artistic. Has good potential

The Bad News:
You need to know about the culture to find most of the things funny. It feels long and is slightly boring.

The Verdict:
It’s like Napoleon Dynamite gone Israeli/Egyptian (there’s one funny part and the rest is slightly pointless).

Rating:
2 ½ out of 5
