The Canary Project
Kate

At Santa Barbara City Hall there is an art show presenting the Canary Project’s artwork. The Canary Project’s mission is to show people “visually the evidence of climate change and it’s potential for devastation.” Connor, Amy and I all had the opportunity and privilege to interview the founders Susannah Sayler and Edward Morris. They both were very kind and had great things to say about their project and the environment. Their artwork was fantastic and it was great to learn that they are continuing to shoot seven more locations.

We all learned a bunch from the interview and were very excited to hear that they drove down specially to meet with us. Conor learned about how important global warming is and how we need to help soon. Amy learned about how bad the storms, droughts, and fires are getting from the effects of global warming. I was very interested by their inspiration from Elizabeth Kolbert and how they got the idea for the project from her articles in the New Yorker. I also was exited to learn about their beautiful Pasterze Glacier, Hurricane Katrina, and Great barrier Reef shots that will soon be in museums in Denver and Chicago, which will be great to see.
