THE ELEPHANT WHISPERER

...is sad, but also has a great message. It follows one woman’s quest to save the elephants in Thailand. This woman, Sangduen Chailert, who goes by the name Lek owns a ton of land that she brings injured elephants to. The way that people treat elephants in Thailand is terrible. To train them they hit them with spear like things and chain their feet together. Lek brings injured or mistreated elephants to her land and trains them with food and love. The work that she is doing with the elephants is amazing. Elephants are being used in terrible ways for tourist entertainment and logging.

The film work wasn’t the best. There were many beautiful shots of Thailand and of the elephants. The story was more of a focus than the music or photography. The main people talking in the movie were Lek who runs the habitat for elephants and a zoologist who helps with the project. I would have liked to see more people voicing their opinions about it.

Many scenes were kind of disturbing. I was shocked to know that people treat elephants that way. It is scary that people do that and I really understood why this woman was doing all she could to save the elephants. People treat elephants so cruelly. It’s almost unbelievable.

I enjoyed the movie but it is hard to watch sometimes. The way that this woman interacts with elephants is so amazing to watch. It’s a great way to raise awareness about this issue. I had no idea at all that these things were happening. This movie isn’t something to see for amazing film work but it is good to know about these things. I give it a three and a half out of five.
