HIGH PLAINS DOCTOR

DRAMATIC SHORTS HIGH PLAINS DOCTOR: HEALING ON THE TIBETAN PLATEAU is an inspiring film about what one group of people can accomplish! A group of doctors, nurses and volunteers go to Tibet every summer for a month and hold a free clinic for all of the poor people that can’t afford any medical care, because all of the doctors in Tibet only work for the money. The documentary mainly follows Dr. Isaac Harry, who is the main doctor and the one in charge of the clinic. The film also documents the clinic and their treatment of the 1,500 patients that they get in the one month that they are there. The film is also a little bit about the evolution of the small village that they are in and how much it has changed over the years of him going there. For example, at first there was no trash and all dirt roads, but now there is lots of trash and all paved roads.

I loved the scene and pictures of the land in Tibet, and the people who wear the native tribal clothes. Tibet is absolutely beautiful, it is all green peaceful hills that look like they go on forever, and they are just in their own little world! I also found it really interesting to see the native clothes that the people wear there--very colorful with lots of details.

A scene that stands out in my mind is that last scene (SPOILER ALERT) where it says that the next year they did not go because one of their friends who lives in the village was threatened. People found out that he was helping the group get there, but did not even know what the group did! so that year they could not go--the same year a 7.1 earthquake hit that town and pretty much decimated it. The group requested to set up an emergency clinic but their request was denied. Something that I really liked about this film is that there is a lot of happy and touching scenes to like when the clinic helps someone and they leave with a big smile on their face.

I recommend this film to everyone because 1) you learn a little bit about the Tibetan culture, and 2) it makes you feel empowered that you can do anything if you put your mind to it, even helping lots of people and making a difference in their lives. I also recomend this film to anyone who is interested in helping people. I rate this movie a 4.5 out of 5.
