JERRY & MAGGIE--This is Not Photography

...is about two artists who are married who both do somewhat different things. The man, Jerry, uses a few different photos and puts them together to make one somewhat bizarre picture. He does all this in something called a dark room. The woman, Maggy, screens pictures onto her computer and uses photoshop to put the pictures together and change and enhance colors.

The filmwork is great, you feel like you are just following and quietly observing what they do everyday. Sometimes they will talk directly to the camera, but mostly they just explain what they are doing while they work on their projects. It also has a few people who talk about them and explain the things they have done, but those are not very interesting.

In one scene when you are in the dark room with Jerry he shows how he does all his pictures. It is amazing how many times he changed one picture before he would be satisfied. At the end of the process, he would put the picture in a tub of chemicals and the picture would start to appear on the page. It is magical to watch.

This is a very interesting movie to watch. It definitely made me want to go check out photoshop and have someone show me around a dark room. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 because sometimes they would stay on one subject a little too long.
