SHYAMAL UNCLE TURNS OFF THE LIGHTS

This documentary is about an old Indian man named Shyamal Uncle, one day notices that the street lights stay on even when it is bright daylight and there is no need for them. Uncle then embarks on a mission to get the lights to turn off in the day time. His adventure tests his patients, when he finally finds someone that will take him seriously they help him, and then by the end of the movie his mission was a completed and a success!

The cinematography in this movie was very good, the way that they captured the frustration on Uncle’s face was great. In this documentary they make you feel like you are really there by filming everything, Uncle brushing his teeth, getting dressed, washing his face, everything but luckily they did not do it too much that it got boring. In the background of this film they played native Indian music that helped you understand the culture.

My favorite scene in this documentary was the scene when Uncle first saw that they had put the lights on a timer, and they weren’t on during the day. He was so overjoyed that he started dancing in the middle of the park he was in and it was very cute and heartwarming. He was so happy because he was so proud of himself that all of his hard work had paid off and now they were not wasting anything.

I recommend this film to anyone from the ages 12 and up because it is all subtitles and they go quite fast and if you don't read them you will get very confused. I also recomend this film to someone who is interested in India and the peoples day to day lives that live there. I rate this film a 3 out of 5 because it was well done, but if you don’t read all of the subtitles you get very lost and I know from experience.
