SPINNING PLATES

...by Joseph Levy is a story about three restaurants that are making their way in the world with loss and prosperity. There was a Mexican restaurant in Arizona that was falling apart, but they were trying to keep it going for their daughter. There is another restaurant in Iowa that was run by family, friends, and the town itself, until tragedy strikes multiple times. The last restaurant, in Chicago, is very successful, and even got three stars in a very famous restaurant book. They were voted best restaurant in America, while the head chef was fighting cancer.

The way they change back and fourth between stories just t the right point so that you wonder what is happening with the other stories, but want to pay attention to what’s happening with that one. At some points it was hard to follow because they didn’t completely explain what was happening. They filmed them making the food to go along with the interviews so that you could kind of understand what they were making. When you finally understood the purposes of all the restaurants you could see how similar their goals were, which really made the end come together.

In the end I started to get bored, because to me, making food isn’t the most entertaining thing, but they did do a really good job for a film about food. To me the film wasn’t entirely about restaurants, but about the passion of making people feel good. Overall I gave Spinning Plates a 3.5/5 because for a movie about food, it was pretty good.
