In honor of Martin Luther King Day and Black History Month, the 6th and 7th graders of Santa Barbara Middle School have been focusing on the stories of some fellow students, the Little Rock Nine. Just after the famous Supreme Court decision Brown vs. the Board of Education, these brave kids spent an entire year trying to break down the segregation barrier at Little Rock Arkansas' Central High School. SBMS students watched the film The Ernest Green Story, then had the rare opportunity to interview Ernie Green and his friend and fellow Little Rock Nine member, Dr. Terrence Roberts. Their stories of courage have a lot to teach students about the dream, the mountaintop, and what kids can do to make this world a better place.
