Okay. So, a whole bunch of reporters crowd in at the railway as cameras flash and screams echo on the walls. You feel your knees shaking, your stomach jumping up and down with excitement (I mean literally) and then all of a sudden, “Hey! We’re the SBMS teen press!” And you find yourself shaking hands with Will Smith. Believe me, that was pretty cool! We shook hands with the real Chris Gardner, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and two of the screenwriters of Children of Men. Let me start at the beginning:
Chris Gardner was really nice and he had a huge personality! It was really amazing to see how much he really believed in the things that helped him pursue happiness in life. We asked how he now gave back to the community and he said that he really tried to spend time with the people who really tried to turn their lives around, the people who got up every morning to go to work and then went back at night to go to the homeless people. He said that he personally didn’t want to help the people who weren’t trying their very best to turn the corner. He helped the people who had the prerogative to do all they could do to make their life better. We asked if he still attended GLIDE church and he said, “Every chance I get! One thing they always say at GLIDE is baby steps count to as long as they are going forward!”
Will Smith was really loud, really friendly and made you feel completely comfortable. It was really fantastic! We could only talk to him for a moment, but we learned that the work that he is most proud of is Ali and that he helps out a lot with an organization in Africa. It was really neat to talk to him!
Jada Pinkett Smith was really nice and she answered a lot of questions. She seemed very open and friendly and had a way that just made you smile. She said that one of her favorite movies is Pursuit of Happiness, but that her favorite of all her husband’s films is Men in Black I. Jada said that son Jaden didn’t come because he was really tired out from the tour through Europe with his Dad.
Modern Master Award – Interview
After the Red Carpet Event, came the 2 hour interview of Will Smith. Leonard Matlin, a very famous movie critic, asked Will many questions, which Will answered whole-heartedly. It was really neat to see how fully he believed in everything he said. I had a really hard time hearing what they said because of the echo in the sound system, but what I did hear was really beautiful! Bravo!!
