The Finnish film Letters to Father Jacob told the story of a woman released from jail. She goes to live and work for an old priest, Father Jacob. Father Jacob is old, and cannot tend to his mail, so Leila, the women who comes to live with him, reads and replies to it for him. They do not get along in the beginning, and argue for a while, but when the letters stop coming and Leila has nothing to read to him, he grows lonely and sad. This is when they really connect. Leila, who was stubborn and withdrawn before, ends up opening up to Jacob, telling him of her abusive and angry mother, and brave, kind sister. Jacob dies not long after that, but he has changed Leila's life for the better.

I did not really like Letters to Father Jacob. I thought it was very slow at the beginning, and not very interesting. The end is fabulous though, you really realize why Leila is the way she is, and how Father Jacob changes that. Despite the relatively slow plot line, the cinematography was beautiful, and it was wonderfully put together. Over all, I rate this movie and 3 out of 5.
