SKATELAND

Reviewed by Griff

It's the 1980's, and Ritchie Wheeler is out of high school. He spends his days at parties with his friends and working as the manager at Skateland, the town's local roller-skating rink. His life gets complicated when his parents announce their divorce, his best friend, Clive, dies in a car crash, and his girlfriend decides that they need time a part so she can pursue her college goals. The film is filled with wild parties, a love interest between Ritchie and his girlfriend Michelle, car chases, fighting, and most of all just everyday life just out of high school in the 1080's. The year moves on, and his friends start to make plans, but the problem is Ritchie doesn't have a plan. With time wasting away, Ritchie realizes that he needs a plan. Skateland is a coming of age film, of a boy trying to figure out his future.

I personally enjoyed the whole entire tone of the movie. The movie was done in the style of John Hughes, which I enjoyed so much. I think it's a movie that portrays a realistic story of teenagers moving into adulthood. I enjoyed that; movies that are original, and are more honest than a typical film. That's not to say it wasn't cliché in many parts. It was painfully cliché. I could predict every single plot twist, which really lowered my review.

Overall I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 because it was done well, but this plot has been done too many times before.
