SKATELAND

Reviewed by Lexi

Skateland was a sweet and funny coming of age film. It showed kids coming out high school and struggling with the hard life decisions they needed to make. Some of the teens knew what they wanted, but most did not. When Clive, one of Ritchie's best friends, died in a car crash it was an awakening for Ritchie. He quickly realized how short life is, and that he didn't want to waste it by partying it away. Slowly, he started to change his life to be more meaningful. Ritchie, and his girlfriend Michelle, hide from the fact that they are in love. They were also best friends, and when they both get accepted to the University of Texas, they make the decision to go together. This film has the best of the 80's music and the best iconic fashion of the decade.

I think that everybody in this film did a great job, but I really liked Ritchie's little sister Marry (Haley Ramm). She did a great job playing her role as one of the only women Ritchie could trust. Mary was strong, independent and insistent as she tried to make sure that Ritchie's life would turn out okay. When she was not trying to get him to look into college application, she was making a college with pictures of her family. She was a great and positive influence and helped her brother immensely.

This romantic and nostalgic glimpse into the eighties was funny and dramatic. I would give it a 3.5/5.
