LIFE 2.0

Reviewed by Griff

Second Life is not a video game, it's an experience. At least that's what the players say. Second life is an online community, where people create their own character and explore. There's no rules, so anything can go on. In the documentary, Life 2.0, viewers get a glimpse at three players' stories about love, a lost childhood, and making a living, all inside this virtual Second Life. All of these people have a missing piece in their lives, which Second Life fulfills. This movie gives an unbiased view on the pros and cons of Second Life.

After the movie, they had a Q & A. The awesome part was that the majority of the people were Second Life characters, answering these questions online. It was amazing. The group actually put a live feed of the movie on second life while we were watching it! It was also really cool, because they designed a movie theatre, in which they showed the movie, and did questions. It kind of looked like the theatre we were in! This really showed the capabilities of the program and the creative technology, which was all pretty amazing.

Overall, this movie was really good. The director did a great job of telling all these personal stories, and making them interesting. I found most of this virtual reality world incredibly weird, but very informational. At some points I felt like leaving the room, out of embarrassment and shock. In the end, I found this whole idea of Second Life disturbingly intriguing, and I couldn't stop talking about it. So, even though it was painful to watch, the film makers did a great job of making people talk, think and question; and that's what it's all about. Bravo to them all!
